Dear Erik, There Is No Crying In Hockey E-mail

Karlsson, who missed Monday’s practice with a bug, but was on the ice with the Senators yesterday, did not speak with the media after learning of his demotion.  Murray said the 19-year-old was “very emotional” upon hearing the news.  “He was quite emotional about it...We’ll give him the day, and he can travel down (Wednesday) and we’ll make arrangements [for him] to be in the lineup, hopefully, Friday night.” -- Ottawa Sun

Oh, hey Erik.  Look, I know this is hard.  Believe me when I say that I feel your pain.  Let me tell ya, when I was yanked off the bar and demoted to bus boy for the completely understandable offence of buying a shot of Jack for an underage hottie, I was devastated.  No, really, who knew a 16 year old could have that kind of cleavage?  Not me, I grew up in Cornwall.  Wait.  On second thought, that should have totally clued me in.  Okay, bad example.

But really, it's for the best.  I ask you, where else but in the A are you going to learn the finer points of being an NHL defenceman?  Where else are you going to learn that you don't have eleventy thousand seconds to make the first pass because the ice is rather small when compared to that which you've become accustomed?  Where else are you going to learn that a forechecker will fold you in half faster than you can say "Gefilte fish!  Yum!"?  Where else are you going to learn that the crowd isn't booing but screaming "SHOOT!!  FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, SHOOT!!  I don't care if it's on net.  Just SHOOT!".  And where else are you going to learn to grow six inches and put on 50lbs in order to keep yourself from being pounded into Ikea breakfast sausage?  Nowhere else but Bingo, that's where.

So please Erik, quit your bitching and do at least try to enjoy your stint on the buses.  If not for you, than do it for the fans.  Not to worry, you'll be flying charter soon enough.  The Bryan's job depends on it.  And if all else fails, remember this:  Jared Cowen is coming.  He'll be happy to show you what a real Big League D-Man looks like.

I love the bartending example...hilarious! As for there being no crying in hockey, well....tell that to #15 in San Jose. We haven't seen the last of Karlsson this year. I really think Murray was serious that the 10 game limit wasn't that big a deal for him. Karlsson will be back at some point after the Olympics, even though he really should have just spent the whole year in Bingo.

Ahh this blog just went up a bit in my books, since it's run by a Cornwallite! (Oh, and one can't be blamed for thinking a 16 year old Cornwall girl in a bar was 19...)
mmmm... cleavage

Truth be told, his camp was good but not great. Should he have made this team over BLee, or better yet, that other Karlsson fellow? Don't worry, we'll have the smooth skating, budget busting Soupy on the back end soon, and I'm sure it'll cost us a meagre fortune.smilies/angry.gif

@Sacul: I'm actually kind of hoping he stays in Bingo for the year. Not so much for the contractual implications, but for his own development. If we saw anything over the last nine games, it's that he is NOWHERE near ready for Prime Time.

@TotallyAlfie: Excellent point completely negated by the fact that you were unacceptably disrespectful to a good friend of mine last week. Not cool dude.

@GelatinousMutantCoconut: REPRESENTIN' YO! EAST Side!

MFP3: Not ready to give up on the lad by any stretch, but yeah...doesn't bode well, does it?
For the best

Erik needs to get another 10 to 15 Lbs of muscle, so he can play more physical, stake his place, battle, develop his defensive game, rather than just relying on stick checking. The ahl is perfect and it gives him a physical league with a small rink.

We want a line 1 offensive defensemen who can play great offense and hold his own defensively. Think Timmonen, NOT Corvo.
